Environment Awareness Campaign for Unprivileged Kids | 27th February 2025
"We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children.”
On 27th February 2025, UNPRME Regional Hub Lucknow, under the mentorship of Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow, in collaboration with IILM Lucknow and NGO partner: Sarthak Foundation, organized an Environment Awareness Campaign at Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow, benefiting 80 underprivileged students. This initiative, mapped to SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production, aimed to educate children on sustainable living, focusing on reducing plastic use, saving water, preventing food waste, and conserving energy.
The campaign was well conducted under the guidance of Dr. Reena Agrawal (Chairperson - Social Responsibility Committee) and was successfully coordinated by Mr. Saurabh Singh (Student Coordinator - Social Responsibility Committee), along with senior members Ms. Preksha Jain and Ms. Vaishnavi Sharma, with valuable assistance from Ms. Pratiksha Singh and Mr. Raj Shukla, supported by 20 student volunteers from Jaipuria Institute of Management and 6 from IILM Lucknow.
The campaign began with a Pre-Test Quiz to assess the students' baseline awareness of sustainability topics. This short quiz covered essential areas such as plastic pollution, water conservation, food waste management, and energy efficiency, providing insights into their existing knowledge and understanding.
Further, to make the learning process more engaging and impactful, a PowerPoint Presentation & Video Session was conducted. The students were introduced to SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production through a well-structured PowerPoint presentation and an educational video. This visual learning approach helped simplify complex concepts, making them easier to understand and remember.
Following the theoretical introduction, Interactive Awareness Activities were conducted to reinforce key sustainability concepts. The “Say No to Plastic” session educated students on the harmful impact of plastic pollution and encouraged them to adopt eco-friendly alternatives. In the Water Conservation Demonstration, students learned practical ways to reduce water wastage, including rainwater harvesting and leak prevention. The Food Waste Prevention Workshop highlighted strategies for portion control, proper food storage, and composting, promoting mindful food consumption. Additionally, the Energy Conservation Drive introduced students to simple but effective energy-saving habits, such as turning off unused appliances, using LED bulbs, and maximizing natural light.
To encourage creative expression, a Drawing Activity on SDG 12 was organized. Students were asked to visually represent their understanding of sustainability and responsible consumption, allowing them to engage with the concept in an imaginative and meaningful way.
As a step toward personal commitment, students participated in a Signature Campaign, pledging to incorporate sustainable habits into their daily routines. This initiative served as a symbolic yet powerful reinforcement of their responsibility toward environmental protection.
The campaign concluded with a Post-Session Quiz to measure its effectiveness. The responses demonstrated a significant improvement in the students' understanding of sustainability concepts, highlighting the success of the awareness initiative in fostering environmentally conscious behavior among the participants.
The initiative directly impacted 80 students, equipping them with practical knowledge to adopt sustainable living practices. The interactive approach fostered a sense of responsibility among the participants, inspiring them to make conscious efforts toward environmental conservation.
