On 23rd March 2025, Social Responsibility Committee at Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow, organized the Environmental Awareness & Holistic Development Campaign for Slum Kids in collaboration with Child Friendly School, Shanti Balika School, and Study Hall Prerna School, & Robin Hood Academy. The initiative aimed to create an inclusive and enriching learning experience for underserved children while promoting environmental responsibility, aligning with SDG 4 – Quality Education and SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production.

The event was well organized under the guidance of Dr. Reena Agrawal (Chairperson, Social Responsibility Committee) and was coordinated by Mr. Saurabh Singh (Student Coordinator, Social Responsibility Committee), with support from senior members, Junior Representatives, and volunteers.

This initiative combined interactive education with physical and creative activities designed to build awareness and values of sustainability among young minds. The participation of multiple educational institutions fostered a vibrant environment of collaboration, enthusiasm, and experiential learning.

The campaign featured a balanced mix of outdoor fun and classroom learning, designed to engage children in multiple dimensions of development. Outdoor Games & Competitions encouraged physical activity, teamwork, and excitement. Some of the games which were held were: Musical Chair which fostered agility and quick thinking. Further, Three-Legged Race highlighted coordination and teamwork. Tug of War boosted group spirit and strength. The game inspired by famous Netflix show Squid Games, Red Light, Green Light, sharpened attentiveness and reaction time. The game of Lemon Race helped build balance and concentration.

Moving further, Dance Performances by the students added a joyful touch to the day, encouraging self-expression, confidence, and celebration of creativity.

In the classroom learning segment, an informative video was screened, introducing the children to the themes of sustainability and the importance of education. This was followed by a Drawing Activity, where students illustrated their takeaways, and Poem Writing, where they expressed their understanding of environmental responsibility and educational values in their own words.

The campaign made a meaningful difference in the lives of 162 children, blending fun, learning, and creative expression. The efforts of 41 dedicated student volunteers ensured that each child received personalized attention, enabling better engagement and participation.

The initiative left a lasting impression, not only enhancing the children’s understanding of sustainability but also nurturing their confidence, teamwork, and communication skills. By integrating SDG principles into real-world learning experiences, the event inspired a new wave of environmentally and socially responsible young minds.

The event also received media coverage from prominent platforms, including Tijarat, Lok Bharti, Amrit Vichar, and Vidhan Keshari, reflecting its wide impact and reach.

Voices of the Beneficiaries

Sanjay Gupta (Shanti Balika School):
"I never knew learning could be so much fun! The games helped us work together, and I loved the video about saving the environment and why education is important. Now, I will try not to waste food and study for learnings."

Sarika Singh (Child Friendly School):
"I enjoyed the dance performances the most! It was great to see everyone expressing themselves so energetically. Also, I learned that using too much plastic is bad for the Earth, so I will ask my family to use cloth bags instead."

Priyanshu (Study Hall Prerna School):
"The drawing activity was my favourite because I could show what I learned in my own way. I drew a picture of trees, clean rivers, and people reusing things. I hope everyone follows these good habits!"

Ishani (Study Hall Prerna School):
“This was the best day! The video helped me understand why we should not waste things. I wrote a poem about saving water, and I will make sure my friends and family follow these good habits too.”
