The Staff Development Series at Jaipuria Institute of Management, Indore, recently featured an insightful session organized by Mr Rahul Bairagi, Chief Administrative Officer (CAO). The session was led by Dr. Rekha Attri, Dean of Student Affairs, who served as the resource person and focused on the concept of Empathy Mapping.
Session Overview:
Dr. Rekha Attri sensitized the participants on the importance of Empathy Mapping, a powerful tool for understanding the perspectives of different departments within an organization. During the session, various cross-departmental teams were formed, with each team comprising members from different departments.
Activity:
The teams were engaged in an interactive activity where they applied the Empathy Mapping framework to better understand the dynamics of other departments. This framework encouraged participants to explore what each department says, does, thinks, and feels. By doing so, the teams could gain insights into the complexity and nature of work within each department.
Key Objectives:
The primary aim of this session was to foster a deeper understanding of the challenges and intricacies faced by different departments. By working in cross-departmental teams, participants were able to appreciate the need for collaboration and support across various functions within the organization. The exercise emphasized the importance of empathy in enhancing communication, cooperation, and overall organizational growth.
Outcome:
The session highlighted that while every department might consider its work to be crucial, it is equally important to recognize that no department's efforts are less significant. By cultivating a higher level of empathy towards the challenges faced by other departments, the participants were encouraged to improve communication and foster a more supportive and understanding workplace environment. This approach is expected to contribute positively to the growth and development of the organization as a whole.
