On 1st August 2025, Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow, organised an impactful session titled “Own Your Image: Projecting Professional Confidence and Charisma”. It was well organised by Office of Student Affairs and Student Welfare & Disciplinary Committee under the guidance of Dr. Rashmi Chaudhary (Dean, Student Affairs) and was well coordinated by Ms. Supriya Bisen (President, Student Welfare & Disciplinary Committee) with the support of her senior members.
The session was led by internationally certified Executive Coach and Personal Branding Consultant - Ms. Nitu Walia Kanwar (CEO & Co-Founder, Empower Image). The session focused on a vital yet often underestimated dimension of professional development - personal grooming and visual presence. Drawing from her 24 years of rich industry experience, she engaged students in an interactive, thought-provoking dialogue on how dressing well, maintaining hygiene, and carrying oneself with purpose can dramatically influence perception in professional spaces.
The session opened with a thought-provoking activity where Ms. Kanwar presented an image of a casually dressed individual and further invited the audience to share their perceptions about the image. Once the guesses were in, she revealed that the person in the image was none other than Reid Hoffman (Co-founder, LinkedIn). This powerful moment set the tone for the session, emphasising how quickly and often inaccurately we form judgments based on appearance.
Moving further, she led a deep dive into the essentials of grooming, including the role of well-fitted clothes, colour psychology, and layering in creating a trustworthy and credible image. She explained that grooming goes beyond just wearing good clothes; it’s about coordinating accessories, selecting the right colours, maintaining neatness, and showing attention to detail, such as matching belts and shoes. For women, she shared that subtle makeup and minimal jewelry can enhance presence when done tastefully.
Ms. Kanwar also highlighted that our posture, body language, and grooming habits speak louder than words. She shared that most of our communication is non-verbal and stressed the importance of standing tall, making eye contact, using open hand gestures, and paying attention to neatness, from clean shoes to well-groomed hair and simple, smart accessories.
The session ended with a lively Q&A round, where students asked for tips on how to present themselves better during interviews and formal situations. The audience left the session more aware of how their appearance and behaviour can affect the way they are seen by others. This event was a great reminder that confidence is not only about what we feel inside—it also shows in how we dress, speak, and carry ourselves. Sessions like this support the goal of Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow, in helping students become not just good managers, but confident and well-prepared professionals who understand the importance of personal appearance and behavior.
