On 14th July 2025, Social Responsibility Committee at Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow, organized a Financial Literacy Program, aligning with SDG 1 – No Poverty. The session was organized under the guidance of Prof. Reena Agrawal (Chairperson, Social Responsibility Committee), and was well coordinated by Mr. Abhishek Narayan Singh (President, Social Responsibility Committee) along with senior members Ms. Ritwika Vishal, Mr. Sanyam Gupta, Mr. Riza Nawab, and Mr. Sparsh Sinha. The judging panel included Dr. Manisha Seth (Faculty, Human Resource Area) and Dr. Nilesh Kumar Tiwari (Faculty, Human Resource Area)
The event saw enthusiastic participation from 52 students of Section A and Section B, aiming to equip them with the knowledge and skills to foster financial empowerment among marginalized communities.
The primary objective of the program was to enhance students’ understanding of real-world financial challenges faced by vulnerable groups such as house helpers, street vendors, and daily wage earners. It focused on promoting essential financial concepts such as budgeting, saving, managing debt, and accessing formal banking services. By aligning with SDG 1, the initiative contributed meaningfully to reducing poverty, improving financial inclusion, and building resilience against economic shocks.
The session was uniquely conducted in a debate-cum-discussion format, where two student teams presented their perspectives on financial issues, followed by a mandatory switch in stance. This dynamic format not only enabled students to think critically but also encouraged them to step into contrasting viewpoints, thereby building empathy and a more holistic understanding of financial behaviors.
The session led to several key student learning outcomes:
- Financial Awareness: Students gained valuable insights into common financial challenges such as saving habits, budgeting techniques, debt cycles, and the risks of digital financial tools.
- Perspective Building: The switch-side debate cultivated empathy and the ability to critically evaluate arguments from multiple financial standpoints.
- Analytical Skills: Exposure to real-life financial scenarios enhanced students’ problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
- Community Orientation: The session instilled a sense of social responsibility by sensitizing students to the financial struggles of underserved populations.
- Confidence & Communication: Active participation in structured debates improved public speaking, articulation, and self-confidence.
The Financial Literacy Program was a significant initiative by Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow that empowered students to act as informed and responsible change-makers in society. By engaging in debate, discussion, and deep reflection, participants not only gained a stronger grasp of financial inclusivity but also left equipped to extend that knowledge to those in need. The event effectively blended academic learning with community engagement - reinforcing Jaipuria’s commitment to shaping socially conscious future leaders.
