Raised in Shravasti, near Lucknow, Ghanesh Kumar Shukla (batch of 2013-15), is currently Area Sales in Charge at Tata Sky. Shukla, who finds his job “very stimulating,” graduated from the Jaipuria Institute of Management, Indore, with HR and Marketing as his majors.

Looking back at his time in Jaipuria, Indore, Ghanesh says that it was an experience that honed his skill-sets and made him ready to take on any task with the dedication necessary of an industry-ready professional. “My day usually begins with a conference call to my teammates and to my reporting manager. We go into the market to meet the distributors in our territory, according to a Pre Journey Plan (PJP),’’ he says. With Trade Partners assigned to him, Shukla has to ensure that he has data on his fingertips and strategies in place. Thinking on his feet is another asset – one he learned from his time at Jaipuria, Indore.

Harking back to his days at Jaipuria’s Indore campus, Shukla is grateful to the faculty for the concepts he learned. In addition, the off-campus visits, that were very much part of the learning experience, also gave him exposure to the practical aspects of doing business. Today, this knowledge is helping him excel over his other peers. He explains: “In my case, for instance, I always analyse data before I visit the market. That way I always have the real picture in numbers and am able to give my trade partners logical answers. The process saves a lot of valuable time and makes the task at hand very easy!”

Careers present many challenges that have to be faced and overcome, says Shukla advising students to strive to be task-oriented. “We often waste time and effort in doing more than the task asks for. Hence strive to be focused and goal-oriented,” he says. And if one is in a marketing career, Shukla feels that discipline and time management are handy tools. “Fix your lunch timings so that you focus on your health as well,” he advises.

Handy suggestions from alumni who is putting all he learnt at Jaipuria into practice!
