“In the beginning, we were a 10 to 12 person company – now, we have over 2000 employees with a turnover of more than 1.5 million U.S. dollars and a presence across 80 countries”, shares proud Aakash Kumar, Managing Director of the MiDCOM Group. He has reasons to be proud having invested 18 years of his working life in the organization. It was a conscious decision to shift from his own business to MiDCOM, and since then, there has been no looking back.
Aakash belongs to the first batch of Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow. He, along with Anand Kapoor,Vice Chairman MidCom group, Alumni of Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow has achieved a lot in the last two decades. The friends and work partners have a perfect rhythm: –Anand is the fast-paced, risk-taking leader, while Aakash takes care of implementation and execution. “I make sure that I execute what he plans,” shares Aakash. “And in this journey of about 20 years, I don’t think there’s been any moment that we’ve rested.”
Success comes with hard work, and for Aakash it’s no different. His work day begins at 10am with no fixed time for the closing of the day. This hectic schedule is supported by exercise and yoga, two activities he credits with keeping him fit and focussed. Fitness and sports have been a part of his life for a long time; even at Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow he was involved in different sporting activities. This involvement in sports, exercise, and yoga help him maintain a dedicated work ethic and leadership skills :“There are people who are dedicated and respond very positively to work responsibilities. I trust such people.” Aakash believes that leadership and decision-making skills enable a professional to achieve his goals. “I have learnt a lot at Jaipuria, Lucknow and the institute promises a lot”, he says, commenting on the program. He feels it is very important that students engage with the program and do their best, instead of simply completing the program for the sake of a degree. He fondly remembers his faculty, who he feels were essential to his learning. He specifically mentions Professor Kaul, Professor Goswami and Professor Kavita Patil. The campus environment was conducive for a tremendous learning experience. Aakash credits his institute for giving him a strong sense of motivation: “I can’t forget the day I entered Jaipuria. Everyone, including the dean, welcomed us. That was such a great motivation for all of us.”
