Don't Just Scroll, Build Your Career: The LinkedIn Playbook for MBA Students
In an increasingly competitive
professional landscape, having a LinkedIn profile is no longer enough; knowing
how to use it effectively can make all the difference. With this thought, the International
Relations Committee (IRC) and the Alumni Relations Cell (ARC) of
Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow, under the guidance of Dr. Nistha
Malik (Chairperson – IRC) and Mr. Anurag Mohan (Senior Manager – ARC),
organised an insightful session titled "Don't Just Scroll, Build Your
Career: The LinkedIn Playbook for MBA Students" for first-year
students. The session featured Mr. Girish Chaple, an alumnus of Jaipuria
Institute of Management, Indore (Batch 2016–2018).
The session commenced with Mr.
Paarth Bhatia, Junior Representative of IRC, welcoming Mr. Girish on behalf of
the organising committees. Drawing from his professional experience across
retail planning, operations, business analytics and professional branding, Mr.
Girish shared practical insights on how students can transform their LinkedIn
profiles into powerful tools for professional visibility, networking and career
development.
During the session, he emphasised
the importance of creating a LinkedIn presence that is not only informative but
also engaging and attractive to potential employers. He encouraged students to
look beyond the conventional approach of simply listing academic qualifications
and achievements and instead use the platform to showcase their skills,
experiences, projects and professional evolution.
One of his key recommendations
was to document and share every meaningful project undertaken during the MBA
journey. Rather than merely mentioning a project, students should highlight
its objectives, challenges, their individual contributions, key takeaways and
learnings. He further stressed the importance of demonstrating how insights
gained from earlier projects can be applied to subsequent assignments. This
approach, he explained, helps build a compelling professional narrative and
demonstrates the ability to learn, adapt and apply knowledge in different
situations.
Mr. Girish also highlighted that
consistency and authenticity are essential to building a credible LinkedIn
profile. Students should actively engage with relevant professional content,
share their perspectives, showcase their work and gradually establish their
areas of interest and expertise. A well-maintained profile, supported by
meaningful engagement, can help students become more visible to recruiters,
industry professionals and potential employers.
The session offered students a
valuable perspective on building their professional identity early in their
careers. It reinforced an important message: Every project is an opportunity
to learn, every learning is an opportunity to share, and every meaningful
interaction is a step towards building your professional brand.
The interactive exchange of ideas
and practical suggestions made the session particularly relevant for students
preparing to navigate the professional world.
Through such alumni-led initiatives, Jaipuria continues to leverage the knowledge and professional experiences of its alumni to enrich the learning journey of its students, bridging the gap between classroom learning and industry expectations.
