Speaker: Dr. Rakesh Belwal (Professor, Faculty of Business, Sohar University, Oman)

 

Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow organized a two-day Session on Research Grant Application: The journey from the idea to the funding body on 14th August, 2024. The guest speaker was Dr. Rakesh Belwal (Professor, Faculty of Business, Sohar University, Oman). Dr. Rakesh is a Professor in the Faculty of Business of Sohar University and Adjunct faculty at Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow. He is also an Honorary Associate Professor at the UQ Business School of the University of Queensland Australia, an academic member of the International Association of Public Transport (UITP), and life member of the All India Management Association (AIMA). He possesses more than 20 years of teaching and research experience in higher-educational multicultural settings, including University of Queensland (Australia), Sohar University (Oman), Addis Ababa University (Ethiopia), Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee (India). He has been an active researcher and learner and have been regularly involved in academic activities as reviewer, editor, and supervisor.

 

This event was a collaborative effort of the International Relations Committee and the Research Cell. It was coordinated by Dr. Nishtha Malik (Co-Chair, International Relations Committee) under the guidance of Prof. Pallavi Srivastava (Associate Dean -International Relations) with the support of Prof. Anubhav Mishra (Dean Research). The presence of faculties and FPM Scholars graced the event. The session commenced in a physical mode.

Dr. Nishtha initiated the session by introducing the guest who was presented with a Green Certificate by Dr. Pallavi Srivastava and Dr. Kajal S. (Chair, International Relations Committee)

 

Dr. Rakesh commenced the session with a concise introduction about his background, his research endeavors, and academic journey. He then elaborated on the research grant application procedure, highlighting the session's goals, such as raising awareness of various research grant schemes, strategies for crafting compelling research grant proposals, essential precautions, and motivated the participants to write their own proposals.

 

Dr. Belwal discussed contemporary research practices. According to UK Research and Innovation, 'We invest in research and innovation to enhance lives, stimulate economic growth, and generate employment and high-quality public services across the UK. Together, we are shaping the future.'

 

Dr. Belwal also introduced several additional research funding organizations in the UK, India, and some research grant schemes in the Middle East. He further covered crucial aspects of proposal guidelines, presented some standard formats, discussed budget justification, timelines, and planning with multiple illustrative examples.
