Margdarshan by Alumni Relations Cell - ‘Be your own role model’

Posted on: Aug 1, 2024

On July 22, 2024, the Alumni Relations Cell hosted “Margdarshan,” an interactive session between alumni and new students. Mr. Ashafaque Ahamed, Vice-President of Indusind Bank and a proud alumnus of the 2005-2007 batch, shared valuable guidance with the incoming students. The event aimed to help them develop a focused approach, enabling them to make the most of their two years on campus. Given that they would be studying something entirely new and making career-defining decisions, this guidance was particularly crucial.

Here’s a gist of what Mr. Ashafaque advised a packed house of students from 2024-26. It was two hours of shared wisdom, lighter moments, and some deep learning for the future manager.

  1.  Have a strong CV
  2.  Be aware of your surroundings.
  3. Read business newspapers daily.
  4. Do as many live projects as possible.
  5. Assist your faculties in their projects
  6. Make books your friends and not just the academic ones
  7. Keep in touch with your alumni.
  8. Always have a realistic view.

Mr. Ashafaque started with the importance of a strong CV, how it can be an important tool in driving an individual’s interview in to a direction favorable to that individual, he suggested that students should make a CV right away, as they want it to be two years from now, and keep improving it over the time, this will also, in a way, motivate them, give them ideas, to do better in studies and projects. He then moved to the importance of communication and body language and suggested a few books such as “Seven Habits of Highly Effective People and Ikkigai”, in addition he advised all to set aside some time daily to study newspaper such as Business Standard, Economic Times to make oneself aware of the happenings around.

Mr. Ashafaque then shared his own journey after Jaipuria, how he realized that real corporate world is whole lot different thing then what we make of it during studies and there is much to learn after formal studies, he then introduced the students to the concept of “Urgent-Important Matrix” to prioritize the work throughout the day and thus be more productive than others. He concluded by advice- “Be your own role model” act like the person you want to become.

The session concluded with a Q&A session where Mr. Ashafaque cleared doubts, he also suggested a few courses for finance students that would prove to be great credentials in one’s CV.
